Cambridge DELTA Course Overview
The Cambridge DELTA is an advanced professional qualification for experienced English language teachers who want to develop their teaching expertise, deepen their understanding of language teaching methodology and progress in their ELT career.
The course is suitable for teachers who already have classroom experience and wish to move into senior teaching roles, academic management, teacher training, materials development or specialist areas of English language teaching.

The Cambridge DELTA is made up of three modules. These can be taken separately or as a complete programme:

Module One – Understanding Language, Methodology and Resources
Assessment: Written examination
Delivery: Online preparation focuses on the following topics:
- principles of language learning
- teaching methodology

- evaluation of ELT resources
- understanding of testing and assessment
This module develops the theoretical foundation needed for advanced teaching and academic decision‑making.
Module Two – Developing Professional Practice
Assessment: Teaching practice + portfolio
Delivery: Online or face‑to‑face (depending on centre) focuses on:
- observed teaching
- lesson planning and evaluation
- professional development
- classroom research
- reflective practice
This module is practical and performance‑based. Candidates must have access to a class for assessed teaching.
Module Three – Extending Practice and ELT Specialism
Assessment: Extended written assignment. Learners focuses on:
- specialist area research
- course design
- needs analysis
- syllabus development
- assessment planning

Entry Requirements
To enrol on the DELTA, candidates should have:
- A recognised initial teaching qualification
- Minimum one year of full‑time teaching experience
- CEFR C1 level English or above
- Access to a class for Module Two teaching practice
- Ability to undertake academic reading and extended writing
Students with no previous experience of teaching and no formal qualfications may wish to consider our Level 5 OFQUAL regulated Certificate in TEFL
